CMA was established in the year 2000, but officially registered in 2007. We currently have a membership that comprises of more than 32 large grain milling companies and still growing. CMA represents about 40% of total grain milling capacity in Kenya. Our members operate mills in Mombasa, Machakos, Mwingi, Kitui, Nairobi, Thika, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kitale, Kisumu, amongst others. The Cereal Millers Association was formed with the objective of dealing with policy issues in relation to the Government. Of particular importance then was to lobby against high wheat import duties, address problems faced with cyclical maize shortages and to lobby for a liberalized maize and wheat market. .

“Providing safe, affordable and adequate food to our esteemed Consumers”
CMA members have endeavored to serve a growing number of its consumers of more than 15 million, by providing safe food. We are self regulating and has been in the forefront of the fight against Aflatoxin in maize and other agricultural products. We have also ensured that our members are involved in the food fortification programme that was rolled out by the Government in 2010.

CMA has endeavored to address through consultation and collaborating with industry stakeholders, the potential business uncertainties in the milling industry which are detrimental to our members. CMA members are compliant with all rules and regulations prescribed by the government including the AFFA requirements, the anti-competitive laws (Act) of Competition Authority of Kenya among other laws
Our Resolve is…
- To create a non political, non profit making forum for millers and traders of maize, wheat and other cereal crops;
- To provide for the formation and exchange of views on the growing, buying, processing and trading of cereal crops in Kenya and East Africa
- To advise the National and County Governments of Kenya and any other East Africa Countries or local authorities or otherwise, or any person or company on measures considered by the Association to be necessary for the establishment, development and supporting of the farming and milling industry in the region.
- To represent our members in dealings and negotiations with cereal farmers, buyers, exporters, importers, marketers, Government and its agencies for the benefit and protection of the interest of our members.
- To advocate for our members to receive fair treatment in issues related to legislation, regulation, importation and taxation regimes and create a more robust collective bargaining power in the grain industry.

CMA has a focus on expanding our reach and become a powerful regional voice of reason for the cereal millers in East Africa. We target to include the medium and large scale cereal millers, grain traders, consumers’ federation and related registered associations to support our mission of creating a robust and efficient grain milling industry in East Africa. These partnerships and linkages with key industry stakeholders, the Government and agencies, and international counterparts form a very important component of our success.
